Hello 2011, Bye 2010 [Rewind!]

It’s been a good five months since I first started to write on this blog [1].  2010 is over, so I thought it’d be apt to wind up the year with a post outlining the major events of this year. When I set out writing on this blog back in July, I’d set out to find back my long lost habit of writing something daily. Have I succeeded in doing that? Not quite, but what I’m sure is that situation is now definitely better than it was at the start of the year.

2010 was the year of personal lows, and professional highs, to an extent so to speak. When 2010 began I was at what could be described as the lowest point of my life on a emotional scale. Things picked up, mostly due to friends, and added responsibilities going into the final semester at Nitte. The days spent on doing the final year project were the best ever, and I don’t think I’ve had more fun ever in the labs of Nitte.

For those of you, new to this blog here’s what happened during my engineering days [2: B.E @ NMAMIT, Nitte - A Recap]

Engineering came to one of th you ose endings that could dream for. Scoring the highest ever marks throughout engineering, being the best outgoing student from the department among other things. But even after College was over, I didn’t quite leave Nitte behind. Best known was the Techfest controversy [3] and the furore raised by me. Was it taken in the right spirit? I don’t know. But it sure did make an impact and I’m glad I did my bit for the success of the event.

Fast forward and I spent some of the loneliest times at home. With practically nothing to do during the long holidays that followed engineering and TCS playing Hide and Seek with the joining dates, I tried to do more but failed. The only productive thing was SocialPay which never reached the point where I wanted it to. The wounds of late 2009 were cut open again with a lot more that I than I could take in. It was unbelievable at first, but looking back I don’t think that it could have ended any other way but this. Will I ever move on is the big question. The answer to which is still a big no considering I was still waiting for the call on my birthday [4]. There are somethings in life that never quite change, and this is one.

The later half of the year was spent at TCS [5], where with every passing day the motivational levels to go out and build something awesome continue to drop. It’s a like a crossover between a n00b and a geek and I’ve always been comfortable with the latter. Come 2011 I hope things improve, and I get around to doing what I ultimately aim to do. The startup, and the dreams that go along with it loom large in the clouds of my head, and it needs to rain hard so that I can see green pastures come tomorrow.

2011 might well be the year of Unfinished business, as I attempt to finish off what I started in 2010. If 2012 does turn out to be the year when the world comes to an end, I’d want to make sure that bucket list of things I want to do are empty before its too late. Life is quite short, and not doing things you want to do can only make it shorter. So 2011 is all about putting things back in perspective and start afresh, put the past behind.

My Challenge :

  • Try and Write everyday going forward. Quite tough, but not impossible knowing that I’ve done it in the past.
  • Code, code and code.
  • Take amazing pictures as photography develops into the only passion that’s not technology.

So will 2011 be the year of double rainbows and bright sunshine? Time will tell but I definitely don’t want it to be the year of floods, oil spills among others. Cheers to each one of you and have a happy and amazing new year.

Like I always tell, “Go out and build something awesome!”. Thanks for reading, and all your support.

#ShamlessPlug : This blog has been read more than 6000 times since its inception five months ago. Couldn’t be more happier.

Coming up, will be the people who made 2010 memorable and the first person on that list is a person I met this year. Stay tuned. Once again a Happy New Year to each one of you!
