What have I been Upto?

Apologies for the lack of regular posting for the past couple of months. I’ll try and get back to writing here regularly here. It’s been a nice three months sitting at home. Being the extra curious and impatient person that I am, I decided to do something productive in the holidays. After Yahoo! Open Hack at bangalore, the mood to write code more often really kicked in. So that’s precisely what I’ve been doing for the past couple of months. Immediately after Open Hack I heard about Paypal X Developers Challenge, and I thought I could improve my idea from Open Hack and make a fully functional application for the contest.

Thus I got into almost a month long of development, with sleepless nights thanks to BSNL’s free Internet. Whatever bit of experience I’d gained from doing the Final Year Project was put to some good use, and I was pretty impressed with what I’d managed to stitch together. SocialPay was ready, and I was pretty excited about its chances at the contest. But destiny meant that I couldn’t get the necessary approvals in time for the contest, part my mistake and part Paypal’s. This meant that SocialPay wasn’t eligible for the Contest, and it seemed as if a month of development had gone down the drains.

But anyways I managed to get myself back up and running, and I plan to launch SocialPay sometime this month for the masses. If you are already not aware what SocialPay does, you should watch this video.

P.S. That isn’t my voice in the video. I felt too lazy to record my own in the wee hours of morning.

Meanwhile the startup idea of mine has also more or less stabilized in my head and I have already started to get myself ready for the long haul. Been reading a lot of stuff lately, and I almost end up reading anywhere between 100-150 tech articles everyday. Call it overdose. Simply because its super boring to be home all day. Being in Manipal means I can’t catch up with Kenneth, Raison, Mario and the rest of the gang whenever I want to. But I’m glad that I’m doing something that can be useful in the long term and not wasting away my time by lazing away.

The harsh realities of Post College life have already kicked in. No day goes by when I don’t miss my friends at Nitte, and the College in general. Slowly everyone has left. Harshit is in Bhopal, Rohit in Ahemdabad, Ashwin in Goa, Praahas in Bangalore and everyone else is slowly spreading apart. Somehow I’d wish the College days never end. It can be so depressing and lonely otherwise. To beat these blues I pop into Nitte from time to time and catch up with whatever is happening in the campus. Been taking Aptitude and Placement classes for the juniors, and that’s fun.

But I guess things are slowly coming to an end for me at Manipal. Yes my 7 years long innings at Manipal is now over. Next destination is Chennai, the City I grew up in, the City I’ve come to love. My posting for TCS is at Chennai, and because my sister is already there, we are all shifting out of Manipal and settling in Chennai. I think the Manipal Experience is worth another post, which I’ll pen down in the coming days. So at my last month in Manipal, I want to catch up with as many people as possible, tell them byes, visit Nitte as often as possible (even if Subash anna makes fun of me).

Things to Do : Go to Little Rock, Go to Nitte, Catch up with old friends at Chennai, Get myself ready for Joining TCS (Yes! There’s a hell lot to do)

Immediate next thing is the big reunion of sorts tomorrow in Mangalore. Looking forward to it :)

Have some things planned, and hopefully it works out. Wish me luck folks. I should be writing a lot more regularly from now on as I shift from being a student to a working professional.
